Who its for:

This course is aimed at care workers who are involved with clients who have autism. The course can follow two different pathways. One of the pathways looks at child development and autism and the other covers adult mental health as a result of autism.

Course Covers:

  • Recognise that Autistic Spectrum Conditions is very individual to the person.
  • Explore the Triad of Impairments and how this relates to persons.
  • Have an appreciation of the difficulties and differences that may occur in Sensory Perception.
  • Understand Associated Differences.
  • Consider how the different Psychological Theories impact upon persons with Autistic Spectrum Conditions.
  • Explore and Identify how Stress can affect a person on the Autistic Spectrum
  • Have Strategies that may help reduce stress and help persons feel safe and in control.
  • Have an improved knowledge of the current legislations regarding Autistic Spectrum Conditions including, “Rewarding and Fulfilling Lives”
  • Reflect upon the emotional impact that working with persons with Autism Specific Conditions has, upon staff and others, and the need for support and supervision
