NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care


Who is it for?

This qualification is designed for those who support and assist individuals with their physical or emotional care, daily living needs or maintaining their independence. It is extremely relevant for home care assistants, community support assistants, healthcare assistants and residential or day service assistants. The focus of this award centres around person enabled care, in the development and maintenance of individual independence and direct care delivery to the service users.

Entry requirements

It is open to candidates at any age, of either gender and there are no entry barriers on the grounds of race, creed or previous academic attainment or learning. However, candidates must be employed in a workplace relevant to the occupational standards for Health and Social Care to enable them to complete the qualification successfully

Progression

On completion of this programme candidates are able to progress on to NVQ in Health and Social Care Level 3

Course content: To achieve a full Level 2 qualification, candidates must achieve six units: four mandatory units and two optional units.

Mandatory units:
  •  Communicate with and complete records for service users
  •  Support the health and safety of yourself and service users
  •  Develop your knowledge and practice.
  •  Ensure your own actions support the care, protection and well-being of individuals.
The optional units chosen must be appropriate for the work function and setting of the learner

Assessment: Assessment takes place through evaluation of work-based performance, presenting evidence, witness testimony and questioning. A portfolio of evidence is produced which demonstrates that the candidate can perform to the level described. Participants will all have a vocationally competent NVQ assessor who will help assemble the portfolio and prepare for assessment. In addition, candidates will have access to email and telephone support throughout their NVQ programme together with resources as required.

Duration: There are no fixed periods for completion, however depending on experience most participants complete within 6-9 months.

NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care

Course content: To achieve a full Level 3 qualification, candidates must achieve 8 units: four mandatory units and four optional units.

Mandatory units:
  •  Promote effective communication for and about individuals
  •  Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment
  •  Reflect on and develop your practice
  •  Promote choice, well-being and the protection of individuals.
The optional units chosen must be appropriate for the work function and setting of the learner

Assessment: Assessment takes place through evaluation of work-based performance, presenting evidence, witness testimony and questioning. A portfolio of evidence is produced which demonstrates that the candidate can perform to the level described. Participants will all have a vocationally competent NVQ assessor who will help assemble the portfolio and prepare for assessment. Who is it for?

This qualification is designed for people who often work without direct supervision or on their own, perhaps in a user’s own home. They may have some supervisory responsibility or might be involved in specialist tasks with some degree of responsibility or independence. These awards are particularly relevant to senior care workers, health care workers, home care organisers and community support workers and include units for drugs and mental health workers. The Children and Young People pathway is especially relevant to residential child care workers and foster carers as well as workers in health, youth justice and educational settings.

NVQ Level 4 Health and Social Care (Adults and Children)


Who is it for?

This qualification is designed for supervisory or management roles and covers managerial duties in addition to the assessment planning and review of individuals’ care needs. At this level students will have management or supervisory responsibility for other staff or a high level of autonomy in developing individual responses to the assessed needs of service users.

Entry requirements

It is open to candidates at any age, of either gender and there are no entry barriers on the grounds of race, creed or previous academic attainment or learning. However, candidates must be employed in a workplace relevant to the occupational standards for Health and Social Care to enable them to complete the qualification successfully.

Progression

On completion of this programme candidates are able to progress on to the Registered Managers Award.

NVQ Training Courses - Security

Providing Security Services NVQ Level 2

Course content: There are 5 mandatory units and 3 optional units required to compete the NVQ.

Mandatory units cover:
  •  Minimising and responding to health and safety risks in the workplac
  •  Communicating effectively in the workplace
  •  Giving customers a positive impression of yourself and the organisatioe
  •  Controlling security incidents  
  •   Producing documents manually.
Candidates can choose additional pathways by completing extra units - either before starting or on completion of the main NVQ - which qualify and enable them to work in the following specialist areas:
  •  Static and patrol guarding
  •  Events security
  •  Door supervision
  •  Retail security
  •  Reception security
  •  CCTV operation
Duration: One day’s observation in the workplace will complete the qualification which is normally achieved in 10-12 weeks.

What Is It?

The Level 2 qualification in Providing Security Services incorporates 3 globally recognised CIEH qualifications: Level 2 awards in the Principles of Manual Handling, Health and Safety in the Workplace and Conflict Resolution and Personal Safety, as well as an introduction to Emergency First Aid.

NVQ Training Courses - Transport

NVQ Level 2 Road Passenger Vehicle Driving

(Awarded by EDI - Education Development International)


Introduction

To undertake any NVQ on a part-time basis, you must be working in the relevant vocational sector, ie you must be in a position of employment (paid or unpaid) whereby you are driving some form of passenger transport. For example, private or hackney carriage driver.

You must also be able to access evidence from your current employer and they need to be happy that 'work based observation' will be carried out at your place of work, so it is preferable to have your employers support before starting this type of course.

Entry requirements

Prior to joining this course you will be invited to attend an individual interview with a member of the NVQ Services team to discuss the suitability for the course based on your work background and current situation. No formal qualifications are necessary as the main criteria of suitability is based on current and previous work experiences.

Course content:To gain this award, you must complete a total of 9 units, 7 mandatory and 2 optional units from the list below:

  •  Drive community transport, chauffeured, taxi or private hire vehicles safely and efficiently
  •  Provide professional customer service
  • Deal effectively with difficult passengers (GoSkills PCV Driving Unit 7)
  •  Deal with emergencies and incidents during a journey
  •  Provide a Transport Service in the Community Transport
  •  Transport Children and Young Persons
  •  Transport Parcels, Luggage and Other Items
  •  Plan routes in the Road Passenger Transport Industry

Assessment: Work based observation
